MIPCOM 2023 was an important event for Turkish companies operating in the TV series industry. Episode International asked the company officials who participated in MIPCOM about their experiences at the fair, the latest situation about the content they introduced at the fair, and the significant deals that they made there. In this content, we share the answers of İzzet Pinto, the founder and CEO of Global Agency, to our questions.
How was MIPCOM 2023 for you?
MIPCOM 2023 was very successful for our company. Before the pandemic, there was a declining trend in MIPCOM attendance. However, in the last MIPCOM, perhaps because of the pandemic ending, there was a very high participation. With more than 11 thousand visitors, it was the highest participation in the last 5 years. This also had a positive impact on us. As a result, we had a very productive market period.
We had the pre-launch of our series Red Roses (Kızıl Goncalar), which will be on air in December. The event was organized with the participation of Özcan Deniz and he met with the press beforehand. The launch event was organized with 150 customers in attendance.
On the third day of the market, we held the international launch of our new hit series Another Love (Bambaşka Biri).
We met with media representatives from many regions from America to Europe, Asia to Latin America, who were hosted by our company at the Majestic Hotel. The press conference was attended by the series’ lead actors Hande Erçel and Burak Deniz, along with its’ producers Timur Savcı and Burak Sağyaşar and the director Neslihan Yeşilyurt.
Following the press conference, the launch was held in Monte Carlo with the participation of 300 VIP customers from 90 countries.
Which content have you sold the rights to the most? Or which content have you made the most deals for?
Meetings were held for the projects that we have just launched. There were more sales for the ongoing projects. Among the projects, the most sales were for One Love (Kızılcık Şerbeti) and Vendetta (Kan Çiçekleri).
Did you make sales/agreements with any countries or organizations for the first time this year?
Over the past years, we have reached many countries around the world.
This year we are working for the first time in Venezuela and Curaçao, an island in the southern Caribbean Sea.
Did you make any co-production or adaptation deals at MIPCOM?
We approach co-production very cautiously. We are cautious as we have observed that such projects have been carried out with different countries in our sector before, but did not bring the desired results.
Which markets are on your agenda for the coming months?
We will participate in 18 markets in 2023. Before the pandemic, we were participating in around 12-14 exhibitions a year. We think it is very productive to come together with our clients at markets. We attach great importance to the marketing part of the business and we invest well in this area.
We participate in markets with prestigious stands. We use outdoor, indoor and digital advertisements.
