Oscar-winning director Tom McCarthy (Spotlight) is preparing a new film.
Partly financed by Sony Classics, the Tom McCarthy film is described as a dark comedy. Adapted from Nathaniel Rich’s Losing Earth, it tells the true story set in 1980 at a beachside resort in Florida, where twenty experts attend a weekend conference on the effects of CO₂ emissions on the climate. Their single mandate from Congress: draft a statement on what actions should be taken.
The film boasts an impressive cast, including: Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Evan Peters (American Horror Story), Amy Ryan (Birdman), Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), John Turturro (Severance), Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), and Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty).
Filming is set to begin next month. The producers of the film include Jonathan King, David Levine, Jim Whitaker, and McCarthy. The adaptation, by Thomas Bidegan, Noé Debré, and McCarthy, is dedicated to the late Steve Golin. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are involved as executive producers on the project.
