Streaming giant ChaiFlicks has strengthened its partnership with yes Studios by securing exclusive rights to the multi-award-winning romantic comedy Bloody Murray and renewing the critically acclaimed global phenomenon Shtisel.
The deal grants the platform exclusive SVOD rights for both series across the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. This strategic expansion reinforces ChaiFlicks’ position as the premier destination for high-quality Jewish and Israeli content worldwide. The announcement was made today by Neil Friedman, Co-Founder of ChaiFlicks and Sharon Levi, Managing Director of yes Studios.
Neil Friedman states, “Bloody Murray is a perfect addition to ChaiFlicks —highly relatable, sharply observed, and tackling the challenges faced by single working women striving to balance career and family, all with humor. We believe this series will strongly resonate with audiences. Shtisel continues to be one of the most-watched programs on ChaiFlicks, and we’re thrilled that our subscribers can continue enjoying it on the platform.”
Sharon Levi of yes Studios continues, “We are thrilled to build on our fruitful, long-standing partnership with Chaiflicks by adding two highly acclaimed, character-driven series. Bloody Murray offers an edgy, contemporary take on the classic romantic comedy, with brilliant writing and themes that resonate deeply. Shtisel, meanwhile, has a proven global track record and a beloved ensemble cast that continues to captivate viewers.”
The deal includes both seasons of the offbeat comedy series Bloody Murray, with season one making its U.S. debut on the platform and season two following as an exclusive global premiere. The series recently swept the comedy category of the Israeli TV Academy Awards, taking home five awards, including Best Script, Best Comedy Series, Best Director, and a pair of Best Actress (Naomi Levov) and Best Supporting Actress (Rotem Sela) Awards for its two lead characters.
The series follows 30-something roommates Murray (Naomi Levov, On the Spectrum), a film lecturer specializing in romantic comedies, and Dana (Rotem Sela, The Beauty & the Baker, The Chef), a gynecologist at a hospital — both are successful, bright, and still single. Their friendship is tested when Dana falls in love with a man Murray ditched in a car accident, who then shows up at their doorstep.
Lonely, Murray realizes she has feelings for him, too. Despite their turbulent first interaction, Murray convinces herself that he is actually meant for her; after all, this is how all classic romantic comedies begin…isn’t it? Bloody Murray was created and written by Stav Idisis, who also directed the second season, and produced by Kastina Communications and yes TV.
Additionally, ChaiFlicks has renewed the distribution rights to all three seasons of the multi-award-winning and critically acclaimed series Shtisel. The series, which premiered on Netflix in 2018, was one of Israel’s breakout and defining television hits on the global stage and follows a Haredi family living in an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Jerusalem as they reckon with love, loss, and the doldrums of daily life. Starring Michael Aloni (The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem) and Shira Haas (Unorthodox), along with a stellar ensemble cast.
Shtisel was created and written by Ori Elon and Yehonatan Indursky, directed by Alon Zingman and produced by Abot Hameiri Barkai and yes TV.
The deal was negotiated by Bill Weiner, Co-Founder of ChaiFlicks, and Maya Biton at yes Studios.
