Disney+ has ordered a live-action series adaptation of Afterlife with Archie, the comic book created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla.
The series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Greg Berlanti (You, The Flash) and Aguirre-Sacasa serving as executive producers.
First published by Archie Comics in 2013, Afterlife with Archie follows the residents of Riverdale as they struggle to survive a zombie apocalypse. At the heart of the story are Archie and his friends, who must fight to stay alive while trying to preserve their friendships and romantic relationships amid the chaos.
Disney has announced that the series is scheduled to premiere during Halloween 2027 on Disney+. In addition to Berlanti and Aguirre-Sacasa, the executive producing team includes Jimmy Gibbons, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Jon Goldwater.
Both Berlanti Productions and Muckle Man Productions have overall deals with Warner Bros. Television. Commenting on the project, Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman and CEO Channing Dungey said the company is thrilled to bring Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s acclaimed story to the screen in collaboration with Disney+, Archie Comics, and Berlanti Productions, describing the Archie and Riverdale universe as a world that continues to offer endless storytelling possibilities.
