Ten new Japanese TV formats from the country’s leading broadcasters will be unveiled to the international market at MIPCOM 2026 as part of the latest edition of the TREASURE BOX JAPAN showcase.
Organized by the Broadcast Program Export Association of Japan (BEAJ) and Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the event will take place on October 12, the opening day of MIPCOM, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.
The 2026 lineup brings together formats from Nippon TV, Yomiuri TV, Chukyo TV Broadcasting, TV Asahi, Asahi Television Broadcasting Corporation, TBS Television, MBS, TV Tokyo, Fuji Television and Kansai Television.
Ten Japanese TV formats, one international showcase
The Japanese TV titles making their global market debut include Nippon TV’s ULTRA MISSION, Fuji Television’s Tri Tag, TV Tokyo’s Charge Me Up!, Kansai Television’s Panic Wheel, Chukyo TV Broadcasting’s SAVE MONEY, TBS Television’s Fort Frensy (working title), TV Asahi’s TRADE ROOM, Asahi Television Broadcasting Corporation’s BET ON WHAT’S NEXT, MBS’s Tested & Ranked and Yomiuri TV’s Cash Stash.
This year’s event introduces a new presentation structure. Instead of individual broadcaster presentations, the showcase will put the focus on trailers for all 10 formats, followed by a panel discussion examining Japanese format creativity, international market trends and the potential for local adaptations.
Virginia Mouseler, CEO of The WIT, will moderate the panel, joined by Small World CEO Tim Crescenti, international format consultant and former Fremantle EVP Vasha Wallace, and BEAJ Executive Director Makito Sugiyama. British television personality Andrew Eborn will serve as audience host.
The showcase is designed to generate opportunities for format sales, co-development, local production and remakes during and after MIPCOM. A networking cocktail will follow the event.
Japanese formats have continued to build an international presence, with more than 90 titles reportedly generating nearly 400 local adaptations and over 10,000 locally produced episodes worldwide.
TREASURE BOX JAPAN 2026 will be held on October 12 from 4:00 to 4:50 p.m. at Hi5 Studio, Palais des Festivals, Cannes.
