Netflix has signed a first-look agreement with Canadian scriptwriter, actor, and comedian Mae Martin.
As part of the agreement, Martin will develop new series projects for Netflix and produce a new stand-up special for the platform.
The deal came following the success of Martin’s dark comedy-thriller series Wayward. Wayward premiered in September 2025 and stayed in Netflix Global Top 10 TV for five weeks.
Mae Martin previously created, written, and starred in rom-com series Feel Good, which aired on Channel 4 and Netflix.
About the deal, Martin said: “Over the last seven years I’ve been lucky to build relationships at Netflix that have felt supportive and creatively empowering, allowing my stories (and weird jokes about snow globes, etc.) to reach a global audience. I’m so grateful to continue that relationship, and this vote of confidence will allow me to elevate other voices as well! I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been cooking up.”
Danielle Woodrow, Netflix’s director of content in Canada, said: “Mae is a singular voice who brings a rare combination of originality and curiosity to everything they do. We were thrilled with the success of Wayward and can’t wait to see what they dream up next.”
