The beloved BBC comedy Ghosts may have ended its five-season run in 2023, but fans won’t have to say goodbye for long.
Lionsgate UK has confirmed that the series is returning as a feature film titled Ghosts: The Possession of Button House, set to hit cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 23 October 2026.
Filming is already underway at the real-life manor, West Horsley Place, along with other locations across Southeast England.
Transitioning from television to the big screen allows the series’ iconic characters and signature humor to shine on a larger scale. Monumental Television producers Alison Owen and Debra Hayward promised that this cinematic adaptation will be an unmissable event for fans. Scriptwriters and executive producers Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard, and Ben Willbond are returning, with original cast members Charlotte Ritchie, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, and Lolly Adefope reprising their roles.
Marie-Claire Benson, EVP at Lionsgate UK, highlighted the film’s potential as a family-friendly Halloween outing. Director Simon Hynd is at the helm, and with the U.S. version of the show already approved for a sixth season and international adaptations in France, Germany, and Australia, the Ghosts franchise continues to expand its reach worldwide.
