Benedict Cumberbatch is set to star in the new thriller Last Flight, based on the true story of a real-life humanitarian worker.
Benedict Cumberbatch will also serve as an executive producer on the project. Filming is scheduled to begin in May across the UK, Jordan and Morocco.
The film is inspired by the story of Kirk W. Johnson, a former coordinator at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). After returning from Iraq, Johnson founded the non-profit organization The List Project and worked to help Iraqis and Afghans who assisted the U.S. safely leave their war-torn countries and resettle in America.
The narrative centers in particular on Ali, a young Afghan man fighting to save his family by securing safe passage out of Afghanistan, and his tense, high-stakes collaboration with Johnson.
Director Babak Anvari has described the film as “a thriller built on pressure, momentum and impossible choices, always driven by human consequence.”
Last Flight does not yet have an official release date.
