The Boroughs is created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance).

The Duffer Brothers, best known as the creators of Stranger Things, serve as executive producers on the project.
Blending sci-fi, adventure, and horror elements, the series is set in a seemingly perfect retirement community. The story follows Sam, a grieving newcomer who, after a terrifying encounter with a dark entity, joins forces with a group of fellow retirees to confront a hidden threat lurking beneath the surface.

Rather than treating older characters as comic relief, the series portrays them as complex, resilient individuals facing real emotional and existential challenges. At its core, The Boroughs explores themes of belonging, aging, courage, and solidarity in the face of the unknown.
The ensemble cast includes Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman.

According to the Duffer Brothers, the show carries the spirit of Stranger Things, but instead of kids on bikes, this time it’s retirees in golf carts.
All eight episodes of the first season will premiere on May 21 on Netflix.
