Naz Elmas on ‘Loveberry’ and Her Role as Nihan – Exclusive Interview

Loveberry is actually the story of an educated, urban woman who stands on her own feet, and her family. What were the aspects of Loveberry that impressed you the most and made you want to accept the project?

Naz Elmas: Loveberry is a project I have tremendous confidence in because of its script. For me, the most important thing when accepting this role was that it includes scenes that truly demand performance, and the fact that women like Nihan exist in real life. Our screenwriter conveys this with such natural, realistic language. Each character has their own unique dramas, and as the story unfolds, there are surprising developments. Every episode will bring a major surprise for the audience, allowing everyone to empathize with the characters and find a piece of themselves in the roles. And most importantly, it’s a privilege to be working with our esteemed production company, TIMS&B, and to step in front of the camera with our respected director, Murat Saraçoğlu.

Nihan became a mother at the age of 17, raised her son Bora on her own, and is obsessed with her ex-husband. How would you describe Nihan?

Naz Elmas: Nihan got pregnant by Tayfun at a very young age. Both she and Tayfun became parents when they were still very young. There’s a significant socioeconomic gap between Nihan and her first love, Tayfun. Although her family didn’t approve of the marriage, she married him with passion, completely blind to anyone else’s opinion. However, things didn’t work out with Tayfun, whom she had trusted so deeply. With her family not supporting her, she ended up raising her child all alone. Misfortunes came one after another; her marriage, her family’s worsening finances, the responsibility of her child, and the profound sadness she experienced. Tayfun’s absence and the heartbreak she suffered meant her son Bora also witnessed all of this while growing up. Despite it all, Nihan is incredibly passionate and still has hope when it comes to Tayfun. This hope is what’s kept her holding onto him obsessively.

This story resonates with us so strongly as we portray it; I truly hope it evokes the same emotions on screen.

Loveberry is a series that effectively portrays how even educated and working urban women can give up on living their own lives due to the dynamics within a household. It also features a strong family drama. Where do you think Loveberry resonates most with the audience?
