HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery’s talent development division WBD Access have announced the return of the Script Engine writers’ programme in collaboration with Series Mania Institute.
Designed for mid-level screenwriters, the initiative provides a structured development pathway aimed at fostering inclusive, locally rooted storytelling aligned with HBO’s broader content strategy.
The second edition will focus on writers with strong connections to France, Spain, Italy, and Germany, selecting three participants from each territory to take part in a four-month programme dedicated to developing original series concepts for HBO Max. The initiative combines advanced training, region-specific coaching, and one-on-one mentoring, culminating in project presentations to regional HBO Max executives, where participants will receive direct feedback on their work.
Following the programme, selected projects will enter a six-month first-look period within their respective territories. The expansion of Script Engine reflects the growing demand for locally relevant stories and highlights HBO Max’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of European writing talent.
