Jason Momoa is set to star in the feature adaptation of the popular video game franchise Helldivers.
The Helldivers film is being developed by Sony Pictures in partnership with PlayStation Productions and is slated for a Nov. 10, 2027 theatrical release in the U.S.
Justin Lin, best known for his work on the Fast & Furious franchise, will direct. Producers include Hutch Parker, PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Lin through his Perfect Storm Entertainment banner.
Set in a satirical, dystopian future, Helldivers centers on an elite military unit tasked with defending “Super Earth,” a hyper-militarized intergalactic regime, from hostile alien species. The franchise is known for its blend of over-the-top action, dark humor and cooperative, squad-based combat gameplay. While plot details for the film remain under wraps, it is expected to follow the high-stakes interplanetary war that defines the games.
The project marks one of Sony and PlayStation’s major large-scale collaborations following 2022’s Uncharted, which grossed $407 million worldwide.
Momoa is no stranger to video game adaptations. He previously starred in A Minecraft Movie, which earned more than $950 million globally. His upcoming projects include DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, in which he plays Lobo; a live-action Street Fighter adaptation as Blanka; and Dune: Part Three, reprising his role as Duncan Idaho.
