Canadian media executive and producer Marlo Miazga has launched M Media, a new IP-focused production company developing scripted and unscripted content for multiple platforms and broadcasters.
Miazga most recently served as President and Executive Producer of Unscripted and Kids & Family at Sphere Media, one of Canada’s leading film and television production companies. She previously joined BGM, the company founded by Julie Bristow, where she developed and produced multiple award-winning series. BGM was later acquired by Kew Media, which was subsequently acquired by Sphere Media in 2020, with Miazga taking on the role of President.
CBC Greenlights Ground Control
M Media’s first major project is Ground Control, a feature documentary based on Miazga’s forthcoming memoir Ground Control: Losing My Child to Suicide. The book, co-written with writer and journalist Katrina Onstad, will be published by Random House Canada on January 26, 2027.
The documentary has received production financing through Telefilm Canada’s Theatrical Documentary Program, the Canada Media Fund’s POV program and the Rogers Documentary Fund. CBC has also given the project its first broadcast greenlight, with production scheduled to begin in October and delivery planned for spring 2027.
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Chase Joynt, known for No Ordinary Man and Framing Agnes, the film is written by Greg Beer and Katrina Onstad. Miazga will executive produce alongside Catalyst founder Julie Bristow and Ryan Dias.
Ground Control will receive a theatrical release in Canada through Eyesteel Films, while worldwide rights outside Canada are currently available.
Miazga most recently served as President and Executive Producer of Unscripted and Kids & Family at Sphere Media. With M Media, she returns to independent production after previously co-founding NewroadMedia in 2011 and developing and producing award-winning television projects throughout her career.
Miazga said: “As M Media officially launches, the greenlight for Ground Control marks a deeply personal and professional turning point. After this period of reflection and planning, I’ve built the foundations of a company rooted in resilience, creativity, and ethical storytelling. We know how to make great shows, that has been proven countless times, the secret now is how to make them whilst experimenting, learning, adapting and remaining open, curious and kind. I’m now ready to tell the most important story of my life and to bring other stories that matter to audiences worldwide.”
