Netflix has released the first official look at its highly anticipated historical drama, Kennedy, as filming officially kicks off in London.
Moving away from the well-known White House years, the series transports viewers back to the 1930s to explore the origins of the legendary dynasty. Inspired by Fredrik Logevall’s Pulitzer Prize-winning biography, JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, the drama focuses on the complex relationships between Joe Sr., Rose Kennedy, and their nine children as they began to capture the nation’s attention.
At the heart of the first season is the intense rivalry between the “golden boy” eldest son, Joe Jr., and his rebellious younger brother Jack, the future President JFK, who struggles to step out of his brother’s shadow. The production boasts a powerhouse creative team, led by showrunner Sam Shaw (Manhattan, Castle Rock), with Oscar-winning director Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round) helming the first and final episodes.
The ensemble cast is led by Michael Fassbender as the ambitious patriarch Joe Kennedy Sr., joined by Laura Donnelly, Nick Robinson, and Joshuah Melnick. The series will also feature a wide array of historical figures, including Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Consisting of eight episodes, Kennedy promises a cinematic exploration of the romances, rivalries, and secrets that shaped one of the most iconic families in modern history.
