In a significant move to expand its digital footprint, US public broadcaster PBS has partnered with documentary financier ITVS to launch PBS Documentaries on YouTube.
Replacing the former PBS Voices channel, this new hub aims to reach a broader 18–45 demographic by releasing over 100 new videos annually, featuring premium content from prestigious brands such as Independent Lens, POV, and BBC Studios.
The PBS Documentaries channel officially went live with the premiere of The Inquisitor, a feature exploring the legacy of groundbreaking congresswoman Barbara Jordan, with other high-profile titles like the nature documentary Our New World slated for release in April. Independent Lens doc Keep Quiet & Forgive about a sexual assault survivor, will premiere on March 30.
This strategic pivot follows a highly successful 2025, during which PBS and ITVS content amassed over two billion views on the platform. PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger emphasized that the mission behind the launch is to amplify independent storytelling and ensure the public has seamless, free access to high-quality documentary programming in the digital spaces they already inhabit.
