Sphere Abacus has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Kubrick’s War: The Making of Full Metal Jacket, a feature-length documentary exploring the production of Stanley Kubrick’s acclaimed Vietnam War film.
Produced in the UK by NorthSouth Film Company in association with Matthew Modine and Adam Rackoff’s Cinco Dedos Peliculas and Supercloud Studios, the 125-minute documentary is directed by Stephen Rigg and written and produced by Rigg and Hank Starrs.
Documentary Explores the Making of Kubrick’s Classic
Filmed in London, New York and Los Angeles, Kubrick’s War features more than 30 interviews with cast and crew members who worked on Full Metal Jacket, including Matthew Modine, Vincent D’Onofrio and Arliss Howard. The documentary also draws on previously unseen archive material and previously unreleased audio recordings from rehearsals at Pinewood Studios.
The film examines the challenges and creative decisions behind the production, including Kubrick’s transformation of an abandoned London gasworks into the film’s depiction of war-torn Hue City.
Kubrick’s War: The Making of Full Metal Jacket has been selected for competition at the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. Sphere Abacus Managing Director Jonathan Ford said the company was “extremely pleased” to have secured the documentary, describing it as a film with global appeal for audiences interested in cinema and Kubrick’s work.
