Finland’s public broadcaster YLE has partnered with Banijay Finland on a drag queen-themed crime comedy.
Titled Queen Heist, the series will consist of eight 25-minute episodes. The show is written and created by Cristal Snow and directed by Viivi Huuska.
The story follows two siblings who lose their jobs at a small-town bacon factory and unexpectedly find themselves drawn into the criminal underworld through their drag personas.
Described as a fast-paced comedy blending humour, crime and identity, the drag queen series was developed as part of Banijay Bootcamp, the company’s development and writers’ programme.
Alongside Queen Heist, Banijay Finland is also developing a romantic comedy titled The Good Widow, which explores love and desire in later life. The film centres on a 72-year-old widow who defies her family’s expectations by forming an unexpected relationship with a much younger man.
Both projects join Banijay Finland’s growing scripted slate, which spans crime, comedy and young-adult drama.
