Mansa Studios, the media company founded by David Oyelowo, Nate Parker and Zak Tanjeloff, is expanding its work in vertical storytelling with a new partnership with Macro Television Studios.
The companies are developing an original microdrama series, although details about the project’s title and story have not yet been revealed. Mansa Studios will lead production, while both companies will co-finance the project and share its IP rights. Macro will also contribute its development and production expertise.
Mansa Studios Expands Its Vertical Content Slate
The partnership builds on Mansa Studios’ focus on culture-driven storytelling through its ad-supported streaming platform Mansa, which serves Black audiences in the US and across the global diaspora. The company has previously identified microdramas as an emerging format with potential to support creator-owned IP and new forms of vertical storytelling.
For Macro Television Studios, the project adds to its production activities following its acquisition of Black-focused streamer AllBlk. The company’s previous credits include Netflix series Raising Dion and Gentefied.
Further details about the new microdrama, including its cast, platform and release plans, have yet to be announced.
