International distributor Eccho Rights has taken on worldwide distribution for The Hatmaker (Şapkacı Kadınlar), the upcoming period drama from Turkish production company O3 Medya.
The series will be introduced to international buyers at MIPCOM in Cannes this October, with presales launching ahead of its planned premiere in Türkiye in early 2027.
Starring Pınar Deniz and Selahattin Paşalı, The Hatmaker is set in the early 1920s, during a period of profound social and political change in Türkiye. The drama follows Ayşe, a war veteran whose life is transformed after a devastating attack destroys her family life and her husband Rıza abandons her.
Pınar Deniz and Selahattin Paşalı Lead The Hatmaker
Pınar Deniz returns to linear television following her acclaimed performance in the International Emmy-winning drama Yargı (Family Secrets). Selahattin Paşalı, meanwhile, is known for his leading role in Ömer, as well as the Netflix adaptation of Orhan Pamuk’s Museum of Innocence (Masumiyet Müzesi).
In The Hatmaker, Deniz plays Ayşe, who is forced to rebuild her life after being left to raise her children on her own. Five years after Rıza abandons her, hardship takes Ayşe to İzmir with her children, sister and mother-in-law.
In the aftermath of the Great Fire of İzmir, Ayşe meets an elderly woman who introduces her to the craft of hatmaking. The new skill gives her an opportunity to establish an independent livelihood, while also creating opportunities for other women.
Her new life is threatened when she comes face to face with Rıza, who has since married into one of İzmir’s most influential families. As Ayşe works to secure a future on her own terms, her former husband becomes a direct threat to the independence she has fought to build.
Eccho Rights and O3 Medya Extend Partnership
Handan Özkubat, Director of Turkish Drama at Eccho Rights, highlighted the pairing of Deniz and Paşalı and the scale of the new drama, while Saner Ayar, Founder and Managing Partner of O3 Medya, described Eccho Rights as a long-standing international partner for the company’s productions.
Created and written by Necati Şahin, directed by Ömür Atay and produced by Suzan Sümeli for O3 Medya, The Hatmaker consists of 60 episodes of 45 minutes. The series is available to buyers both as a finished drama and as a scripted format.
The title further expands Eccho Rights’ long-running partnership with O3 Medya. The distributor’s catalogue has previously included O3 Medya productions such as I Am Mother (Sandık Kokusu) and My Sweet Lie (Benim Tatlı Yalanım), with My Sweet Lie also sold as a format in several international territories.
