Beta Film’s kids and youth label Beta KIDS & YA is bringing a slate of new series and family titles to MIPJunior 2026, led by newly acquired Irish-Portuguese adventure series The Girl Who Fell Through Time.
Set to premiere in 2027, the eight-part series follows a 17th-century Portuguese girl who suddenly finds herself in modern-day Ireland. After meeting three teenagers, she begins adapting to the unfamiliar world while trying to find a way back home. The series is directed by Eamonn Norris and Bruno Oliveira and marks Beta KIDS & YA’s first Irish Gaelic-language production.
Produced by Tailored Films with BeActive Media and Éiru Films for TG4, TV Cine, NOS, ICA, Screen Ireland and Coimisiún na Meán, the cast includes Michelle Ní Fátharta, Jeaic Breathnach, Roisín Murphy, Jeaic Ó Scanláin, João Jesus and Carolina Carvalho.
Youth dramas lead the MIPJunior selection
Beta KIDS & YA’s slate also includes Chameleon (28×12’), an NRK drama following four young football players whose ambitions are tested by class, race and inequality. Directed by Tonje Voreland and Ingvild Nielsen, the series was nominated for Best Children’s and Youth Program at the 2026 Gullruten Awards.
NRK’s Somebody’s Lying (49×15’) brings a mystery-thriller angle to the youth lineup. Directed by Miriam Sunde and Eirin Nilssen Vikøren, the series won the International Youth Jury Award for ages 11-15 at the 2026 Prix Jeunesse.
Other Beta KIDS & YA titles include the vertical K-pop romance Between the Beats (26×3’), feature films Just Call Me Frida and Bibi Blocksberg – Witches Unite!, The School of Magical Animals 4 and Pumuckl’s Big Mix Up.
Between the Beats follows an aspiring ballerina caught between family expectations, first love and her ambitions, while Just Call Me Frida centers on a young man who meets an apprentice of Death after being declared cured of an illness. Bibi Blocksberg – Witches Unite! and The School of Magical Animals 4 expand two established German family franchises, with the latter following the fourth installment of a series that has grossed more than $64.5 million at the German box office.
