As Episode Magazine, we spoke with Sercan Badur who plays Muzo on Disney+ original We’ll Be Fine.

Some characters are not at the very center of the story, yet they see the most. Muzo, portrayed by Sercan Badur, stands exactly in that place. In We’ll Be Fine, while everyone is getting lost in their own emotions, Muzo feels like a representative of both fun and reality.

On one hand, he’s in the DJ booth; on the other, he’s in the flow of life, but most of all, he’s among people. We spoke with Sercan Badur about Muzo’s light yet deep nature, the idea of friendship, and his place within the story. Because sometimes, to understand a love… you have to look not at the ones living it, but at the ones watching it.

You play Muzo in the series, one of Aktan’s closest friends, the bar’s DJ, and almost the person who runs everything. How would you describe him?

Muzo is someone who knows how to stay within life; he’s sensitive, empathetic, and genuinely tries to understand people. He’s a character who loves to have fun and is energetic, but at the same time he’s mature, responsible, and someone who brings things together. Beyond being the bar’s DJ, he carries not only the weight of the venue but also the emotions of the people around him.

That’s why we don’t just see his fun side, we also feel how sensitive and understanding he is deep down. He’s very honest in his relationships, not afraid to speak what he believes is right, and when necessary, he can hold up a mirror even to his closest friends. Playing such a character is both very enjoyable and meaningful for me.

Muzo also touches a very critical point in the story, because he unknowingly brings Lal and Aktan together. How do you interpret this “initiator of fate” aspect of the character?

For Muzo, Aktan meeting Lal initially seems like something very ordinary, because meeting new people and flirting is a familiar part of Aktan’s life. So at first, he doesn’t foresee that this encounter will turn into such a big story. But as Aktan’s transformation deepens, Muzo becomes the first to realize that this relationship is far more than an ordinary meeting. In that sense, where he stands is very valuable to me because he’s both the closest witness to this transformation and one of the first to feel that it’s truly fate.

Muzo seems a bit mischievous, energetic, and not someone who takes life too seriously. What do you think is your favorite aspect of him?

What I love most about Muzo is his ability to live life in a balance between lightness and seriousness. From the outside, he seems energetic, fun, and easygoing, but in reality he’s quite aware, reads people well, and can be very clear when needed. Supporting his closest friend while still standing by what’s right and being able to tell hard truths is very valuable. On one hand, he has a carefree side, but on the other, he’s very responsible about his work, often the one who grounds Aktan and keeps the place running. Being able to establish this balance so naturally makes Muzo a very special character for me.

Muzo also has a strong bond with Lal’s friend group in the series. Did that shared friendship energy form on set as well?

Absolutely. In fact, I think that’s the biggest reason for the sincerity we see on screen. We truly became a group where the right people came together, and that’s the most valuable part of the job. This is also partly the signature of our director, Neslihan Yeşilyurt, both in building the world and shaping the characters, she formed a very real connection with us. From the rehearsal process, from the very first day to the last, a very natural and deep bond formed between us. Everyone on the team is genuine and has great energy. Being part of such a group is truly valuable, and I think that’s one of the main reasons why it translates so well on screen.

From the outside, what do you think Muzo sees in Lal and Aktan’s relationship? Does he believe in their great love?

I think Muzo is cautious about this relationship at first. Because he knows Aktan very well and is aware of his past. But as he sees the change in Aktan, he realizes that this relationship isn’t ordinary and gradually begins to truly believe in it. Still, he doesn’t look at it purely from a romantic perspective, he stands in a more realistic place. He sees both how powerful this love is and how difficult the road is. So his position is one that both supports and, when necessary, warns, trying to maintain balance.

You’re playing a character who runs a bar and works as a DJ. Did you do any special preparation to build this world?

Muzo felt very close and familiar to me. I felt like I already knew him, so I didn’t feel the need for extensive preparation. Still, I made small observations about DJ culture and looked at the styles and presence of some DJs. But while building the character, I mostly trusted that sense of familiarity.

The atmosphere created by Neslihan Yeşilyurt is quite strong and stylized. What kind of experience was it working with her?

Working with Neslihan was truly a special experience for me. I think we all already knew her, so from the very first day she built a very comfortable and sincere relationship with us. That made us feel very free, which is incredibly valuable for an actor. She has a very clear vision and knows what she wants, but she also knows very well how to give space to the actor. Thanks to that balance, you stay within the aesthetic world she creates while also being able to develop your character freely.

What kind of energy formed especially in your friendship scenes with Mert Ramazan Demir? Because these kinds of friendships are very defining on screen.

Working with Mert was truly very enjoyable for me. Knowing each other beforehand created a natural comfort between us, and that reflected very well in the scenes. This series essentially tells their story, and we moved forward by supporting each other within that story. Especially in friendship scenes, that comfort is very important, because instead of “acting,” you can simply stay in the moment. That makes the sense of friendship feel more genuine and sincere.

What aspect of Muzo would you most like to stay with the audience?

I’d like Muzo to remain in the audience’s mind as a trustworthy and sincere character. Of course, he has a fun and energetic side, but what’s truly valuable is that he can tell the truth even to the people closest to him and still stand by them. He’s both understanding and supportive. For me, it would be most meaningful if the audience remembers him as someone they’d say, “I wish I had a friend like that.”

Looking at your career, what excites you most about acting? When starting a new character, what feeling motivates you the most?

What excites me most about acting is the sense of rediscovery that comes with every new character. Each role allows me to understand both people and myself from a different perspective. When starting a new character, what motivates me most is that sense of the unknown and the search. Because every character requires me to build a world and truly live within it. That process itself is the most exciting part for me.
