Netflix has begun developing a new period series titled Alexander, which will explore the relationship between Alexander the Great and his tutor Aristotle.
The series will be created, written, directed, and executive produced by Heated Rivalry creator and showrunner Jacob Tierney. Among the producers are Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan through their company Aggregate Films.
The project is based on the bestselling novel The Golden Mean by Canadian author Annabel Lyon. Published in 2010, the novel received critical acclaim for offering a unique historical perspective on the prince’s youth.
The story begins during the decline of the Athenian empire, when Aristotle arrives in Macedonia to tutor the young prince Alexander the Great. Amid palace intrigue, forbidden love, wars, and power struggles, the relationship between the prince and Aristotle ultimately shapes the fate of an empire.
Netflix aims for the series to be an epic yet character-driven drama that resonates with global audiences.
