NBC has ordered a pilot for a contemporary reboot of the classic detective series The Rockford Files.
The project is written and executive produced by Mike Daniels. Carly Beverly and Sarah Timberman will serve as producers, while Universal Television will support the project.
The story centers on James Rockford, a private investigator who was wrongfully imprisoned and is newly released on parole, returning to his work in Los Angeles. The new version aims to offer a modern update while maintaining the humor and character-driven storytelling of the original series.
The original show aired on NBC from 1974 to 1980 and starred James Garner in the lead role.
