Finland’s Nelonen Media and its streaming platform Ruutu have commissioned the first international local adaptation of the Fear Factor: House of Fear format.
The show is returning to Finnish screens after a 17-year break, having previously aired under the name Pelkokerroin until 2009.
The new version expands on the classic Fear Factor concept of physical and fear-based challenges by adding a social experiment layer. Contestants will live together in the same house and compete not only through physical tasks but also through social strategy, alliances, and psychological gameplay. The winner will receive a €20,000 prize.
Banijay Finland CEO Tatu Ferchen described the reboot as a blend of nostalgia and a modern reinterpretation of the format. Banijay Entertainment’s Lucas Green also highlighted that the addition of social dynamics helps the format remain highly engaging for audiences.
Fear Factor has now been adapted in 32 territories and is experiencing renewed global momentum, including a return in India and a planned celebrity version for French Canada. Banijay Finland’s wider slate includes major reality formats such as Temptation Island, Survivor, and The Summit.
