Prime Video has greenlit Undercover Lover, a new Dutch reality dating show produced by Banijay Benelux label SimpelZodiak, with an exclusive launch scheduled for this summer.
Filmed in South Africa, the high-stakes series follows five couples who are separated and placed in competing villas. While one partner must blend in and pose as a single individual among attractive singles trying to expose them, their significant other watches all the drama unfold from a second villa. The couple that successfully keeps their relationship hidden throughout the show will walk away with a €50,000 grand prize.
The upcoming Undercover Lover series will be co-hosted by Robbert Rodenburg, a familiar face on Prime Video who has previously presented formats like Good Luck Guys and Dames in de Dop, alongside content creator Kelly Mexy, who is making her official hosting debut. The production company behind the project, SimpelZodiak, boasts an impressive track record that includes the long-running adventure series Expeditie Robinson (the Dutch version of Survivor), Good Luck Guys, and the recently announced Disney+ and NPO series Wolven.
Interestingly, the Undercover Lover format itself dates back 20 years; it was originally developed by Peking Express producer Kanakna Productions and aired for two seasons on the Dutch network Veronica between 2006 and 2007 before its rights eventually landed with Banijay through a series of company mergers.
