The UK’s BBC Children’s and Education and Germany’s ZDF Studios have officially greenlit a second season of the live-action tween series The Lady Grace Mysteries.
Following its season one debut this past April on CBBC and BBC iPlayer, the newly approved second season will feature 13 episodes, each with a 24-minute runtime. Cameras are set to roll very soon, with filming scheduled to commence this July across various locations in both the United Kingdom and Belgium.
Based on the acclaimed detective fiction books published by Coolabi’s Working Partners, The Lady Grace Mysteries centers on a courageous teenage girl working as a private spy for Queen Elizabeth I. The second season promises much higher stakes as she goes on a perilous undercover mission to rescue Sir Francis Drake. During this journey, she comes face-to-face with Mary, Queen of Scots, only to shock herself with the realization that this supposedly terrifying historical adversary is actually just a teenager like her.
The Lady Grace Mysteries is a high-profile co-production between French prodco Cottonwood Media and Coolabi Productions, boasting a strong creative team. This season, head writer Anna McCleery (Free Rein, A Kind of Spark) leads an expanded writing room, while returning director Louise Ní Fhiannachta is joined by Jordan Hogg (Brassic, Casualty). Global distribution and worldwide sales will once again be managed by Cottonwood’s parent company, Federation Kids & Family, alongside ZDF Studios.
