ZDF Studios and The Walt Disney Company have partnered for the first time in Bulgaria and the Balkans. The deal includes two presales and 34 hours of prime-time drama. Disney has acquired pay-TV and SVOD rights for Concordia, Dead Still, Queens of Mystery, The Puzzle Lady, and The Swarm for both regions.
Series to be Broadcast on ZDF
Concordia is a story about an experimental utopian community. It is produced by Frank Doelger, a multiple Primetime Emmy Award winner known for his work on Game of Thrones, The Swarm, John Adams, and Rome.
While Dead Still is set in the Victorian era and follows the adventures of two of Dublin’s most famous memorial photographers. The show was written by John Morton, who has worked on People Like Us, Twenty Twelve, and W1A.
Queens of Mystery stars Olivia Vinall (The Woman in White, Apple Tree Yard, Maigret), Julie Graham (The Bletchley Circle, Shetland) and Sarah Woodward (The Politician’s Husband, New Blood). The show follows a female detective sergeant who is perpetually single. Her three aunts, who are well-known crime writers, assist her in solving murders and setting her up on blind dates.
The Puzzle Lady is a ZDF Studios co-production with December Films and Factual Fiction, based on Parnell Hall’s best-selling book series. The story revolves around a crossword puzzle columnist who solves crimes.
The Swarm, which is based on Frank Schätzing’s best-selling novel of the same name, depicts scientists from around the world rushing to determine the cause of unusual events in the oceans.
Mirela Nastase, Director Drama at ZDF Studios, expressed her enthusiasm with her statement: “We are delighted that Disney will be the home for these top titles, giving audiences in the Balkans and Bulgaria the opportunity to enjoy some fantastic chilling, thrilling dramas and light-hearted whodunits.”
