Netflix has officially greenlit Florida (working title), a standalone sequel to the globally successful Norwegian disaster series La Palma.
Announced during the Nordic Media Days in Bergen, the project marks the third major “Scandisaster” collaboration between Netflix and the Oslo-based production house Fantefilm. The story picks up just hours after the volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma, shifting its focus to a Norwegian community in Florida that remains tragically unaware of the massive tsunami heading their way.
The decision to expand this universe comes as no surprise following the massive success of La Palma, which amassed 70.3 million views and currently ranks as Netflix’s eighth most-watched non-English language series of all time. The four-episode miniseries reunites the creative veterans behind The Wave and The Quake, with Lars Gudmestad handling the screenplay and Cecilie Mosli (Grey’s Anatomy) taking the director’s chair.
Combining large-scale spectacle with intimate human drama, Florida is expected to premiere worldwide in 2027.
