In a strategic move to bolster its production capacity, Netflix has entered negotiations to acquire Radford Studio Center, one of Hollywood’s most storied production facilities.
Netflix Posts Record $5B Profit via Breakup Fee
As the streaming giant nears the end of its decade-long lease at Sunset Bronson Studios later this year, it is looking to shift its primary production hub north to the nearly 100-year-old Radford campus in Studio City.
Originally established as Mack Sennett Studio, the site boasts a legendary heritage, having hosted silent film icons like Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, and later serving as the backdrop for television landmarks such as Seinfeld, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and That ’70s Show.
This potential acquisition represents a significant opportunity for Netflix to secure a permanent home at a favorable price, following a mortgage default by the current owner, Hackman Capital Partners. The 22-stage campus was previously slated for a massive $1 billion modernization and expansion project that never materialized under its current ownership.
With Netflix now at the helm of negotiations, there is renewed expectation that these expansion plans, which include state-of-the-art soundstages and updated infrastructure, will finally move forward, consolidating Netflix’s physical footprint in the heart of the industry.
