The BAFTA-winning dystopian video game Atomfall is set to be adapted for television by the acclaimed producing duo Harry and Jack Williams.
Developed by Rebellion and recently honored as the “Best British Game” at the BAFTA Game Awards, the project finds its roots in the dark chapters of UK history, specifically the 1957 Windscale fire, which remains the country’s worst nuclear accident. The narrative masterfully blends elements of science fiction, folk horror, and nuclear paranoia, following a protagonist’s desperate attempt to escape a mysterious quarantine zone in the Lake District.
The Atomfall adaptation will be a co-production between the game’s creator, Rebellion, and Two Brothers Pictures, the powerhouse studio behind international hits like The Tourist and Liar. While the television series aims to significantly expand upon the game’s established mythology, the Williams brothers have emphasized their commitment to remaining faithful to its uniquely British tone and unsettling themes.
By exploring the collision of rural isolation and atomic-age anxiety, the production promises to offer a distinctively atmospheric addition to the growing trend of high-end video game adaptations.
