The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s latest sci-fi thriller, The Dog Stars, has officially arrived, offering a glimpse into a post-apocalyptic world that trades typical grimness for a rare sense of hope.
Based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel, the film stars Jacob Elordi as Hig, a young pilot navigating a barren Earth following a devastating global pandemic. Scott, the legendary director behind Blade Runner, intentionally moved away from the crushing darkness of his past work, stating that he wanted to center this story on the idea that humanity remains a choice and that “God helps those who help themselves.”

The Dog Stars follows Hig and a grizzled military survivalist named Bangley, played by Josh Brolin, as they maintain a fragile but efficient homestead in the wilderness. When Hig picks up a mysterious radio transmission, he decides to risk his isolated safety to venture into the unknown in search of a community he still believes exists.
Supporting the powerhouse duo of Elordi and Brolin is an elite cast including Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong, and Allison Janney. Distributed by 20th Century Studios, “riveting and epic” thriller The Dog Stars is set to make its theatrical debut on August 28, 2026.
