Netflix has announced that the global phenomenon Money Heist (La Casa de Papel) universe will continue to expand, sparking fresh excitement ahead of the highly anticipated return of its popular spin-off.
The second season of the spin-off, titled Berlin & the Lady with an Ermine, is set to premiere on Netflix on May 15, following a star-studded launch event held this past Sunday in Seville.
While Netflix has yet to officially confirm a sixth season for Money Heist series or a specific new spin-off, reports suggest that creator Alex Pina’s production company, Vancouver Media, is actively developing new projects. According to the Spanish newspaper El País, a four-episode miniseries focusing on the stern and relentless character of Colonel Tamayo, played by Fernando Cayo, is currently in development.
The enduring success of the franchise is reflected in its streaming numbers, with three different seasons of Money Heist still occupying the 4th, 6th, and 7th spots on Netflix’s all-time most-watched non-English series list.
Furthermore, the first season of Berlin achieved massive global reach, entering the top 10 in 91 countries with 53 million views. Since the main story concluded in 2021, the universe has steadily grown through the South Korean adaptation Joint Economic Area and the ongoing Berlin series, ensuring the legacy of the heist continues.
