The psychological thriller American Hostage, starring Jon Hamm, has achieved significant global distribution success through Sony Pictures Television (SPT), securing deals with several major platforms including HBO Max and MGM+.
American Hostage is set to reach audiences across France, Poland, and Central and Eastern Europe via HBO Max, while Movistar Plus+ has taken the rights in Spain. Additionally, MGM+ will carry the show in the UK, Germany, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and throughout Latin America. In regional developments, SPT has sold the broadcasting rights to beIN for Türkiye, the Middle East, and North Africa, with further sales confirmed for Stan in Australia and Sky in New Zealand.
Set in the 1970s, the anthology series tells the gripping true story of Fred Heckman (Hamm), a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who finds himself thrust into a life-or-death crisis when a hostage-taker demands an on-air interview. The eight-episode first season is adapted from the popular scripted podcast of the same name.
