Gavin Leatherwood has officially joined the cast of the upcoming film adaptation of the BookTok bestseller It Happened One Summer, taking on the role of Fox Thornton, Brendan’s charismatic best friend and fellow fisherman.
He joins a lead ensemble that includes Nina Dobrev, Tyler Hoechlin and Virginia Gardner.
Adapted from Tessa Bailey’s bestselling novel, which has sold more than two million copies in the U.S., the film brings the first installment of the Bellinger Sisters series to the screen. Directed by The Hating Game filmmaker Peter Hutchings, the romantic comedy is currently filming in New York.
It Happened One Summer follows Piper Bellinger, a glamorous Los Angeles socialite whose life is turned upside down after a viral scandal forces her to relocate to a small fishing town. There, she unexpectedly forms a complicated romance with rugged sea captain Brendan.
The screenplay is written by Christina Mengert and Joseph Muszynski, with BCDF Pictures producing the feature and Embankment overseeing worldwide sales.
Author Tessa Bailey praised Leatherwood’s casting, saying the production had found the perfect actor to capture Fox Thornton’s signature charm, confidence and magnetic personality.
