International production companies Story House and United Heroes have announced a new partnership to develop and produce current affairs documentaries for the global market. Combining Story House’s international production expertise with United Heroes’ network and access in Ukraine and across Europe, the collaboration will focus on investigative projects exploring geopolitics, international conflicts and contemporary history.
The companies aim to combine in-depth journalism with cinematic storytelling, building character-driven narratives around exclusive access to key figures and events shaping current affairs.
MH17: Attack on the Truth Set for 2027 Premiere
The partnership’s first major production, the three-part documentary series MH17: Attack on the Truth, is nearing completion and is currently in editing. The series is scheduled to premiere on German broadcaster ZDF in 2027.
The documentary examines the 2014 downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine, exploring the incident as a turning point in Russia’s shadow conflict with the West and the ensuing struggle against disinformation and manipulation.
Drawing on access to key witnesses involved in the investigation and previously unseen footage of the alleged perpetrators, the series goes beyond the tragedy itself. It follows the years-long efforts of investigators and victims’ families to establish the truth about what happened.
Story House and United Heroes to Develop A Broader Slate of International Documentaries
Building on their work together on MH17: Attack on the Truth, Story House and United Heroes are developing a wider slate of current affairs titles for international broadcasters and platforms.
Upcoming projects include a feature documentary about Ukrainian children deported to Russia, as well as productions exploring emerging frontiers in modern warfare. The companies say their joint slate will prioritise compelling personal stories and exclusive access to subjects at the centre of major global developments.
Jens Afflerbach of Story House said the partnership responds to a growing demand among audiences and broadcasters for a deeper understanding of changes in the international order. He highlighted United Heroes’ access to investigative stories and distinctive perspectives, adding that both companies share the ambition of turning complex current affairs subjects into accessible, visually ambitious films for global audiences.
Pavlo Cherepin of United Heroes noted that Ukraine and Eastern Europe have become the focus of stories with significance far beyond the region. He said the collaboration combines the company’s local access and understanding with Story House’s experience producing major international documentaries, describing MH17: Attack on the Truth as a strong example of how the teams complement each other.
Further projects and broadcast partnerships are expected to be announced as development continues.
