Dogan Holding has signed an agreement to sell its entire stake in Romanian broadcaster Dogan Media International for €109 million, marking another major development in the Turkish group’s withdrawal from the media business. The transaction will transfer ownership of the company behind Kanal D Romania to Romanian Content Project SRL, jointly owned by Clever Media Network and EAD.RO Interactive.
Signed on 26 October, the agreement covers 100% of Dogan Media International’s shares. The €109 million consideration is subject to certain adjustments and will be paid in instalments. Completion remains conditional on approval from the relevant competition authority and the fulfilment of other legal requirements, according to Dogan Holding’s disclosure to Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).
Kanal D, Kanal D2 and Radio Impuls Included in the Deal
The acquisition extends beyond the Kanal D Romania television brand. Dogan Media International’s portfolio also includes Kanal D2, Radio Impuls and its digital media operations, bringing television, radio and digital assets under the buyer’s ownership.
Kanal D has operated in Romania since 2007 and has established itself as one of the country’s leading broadcasters. The company says it consistently ranks first in national daytime audiences and second in prime time. Dogan Media International has also positioned itself among Romania’s three largest media groups.
Until the transaction is completed, the company will continue operating under its existing structure. Its brands, teams and day-to-day operations are expected to remain unchanged throughout the approval process.
Clever Media Expands Its Romanian Media Portfolio
The deal represents a significant expansion for Clever Media Network, one of Romania’s established media groups. Its existing portfolio includes 18 television channels, among them Prima TV, Prima News and Prima Sport, as well as digital platforms such as Profit.ro, Cotidianul.ro and PrimaPlay.ro.
Adding Dogan Media International’s television, radio and digital assets will further broaden the group’s presence across Romania’s media landscape. The acquisition brings together two established portfolios and strengthens Clever Media’s position across multiple distribution platforms.
Another Step in Dogan Holding’s Media Exit
For Dogan Holding, the sale is part of its strategy to streamline its portfolio, focus on core business priorities and create long-term value. It also marks another step in the group’s retreat from media, following the 2018 sale of its major Turkish media assets to Demirören Holding in a transaction initially valued at US$893 million.
Dogan Holding retained its Romanian broadcasting operations after that deal, with Dogan Media International continuing to operate Kanal D Romania and its related businesses. The €109 million agreement now signals a further change in the group’s media interests.
Once regulatory approvals and the remaining closing conditions are fulfilled, the transaction will bring Dogan Media International under the ownership of Romanian Content Project, opening a new chapter for Kanal D Romania and the wider portfolio.
