The SeriesMakers program, a collaboration between the Series Mania Institute and Beta Group, has announced its winner for this year.
The selected project is the Canadian dramedy Chachachá! (8×30’), created by writer-director Alison Fairweather Murray and produced by Jennifer Weiss.
The story follows a Gen X woman whose high blood pressure forces her to confront how disconnected she has become from her own life. When she turns to Latin dance, not for fun but as a means of survival, it sets off a chaotic personal transformation. Blending humor with themes of self-awareness, identity, and reconnecting with life, the series stood out to the jury for its sincere, light, and universally resonant tone.
SeriesMakers is designed to support filmmakers transitioning into the world of series, helping them develop projects suited for the international market. Launched in 2022 as part of the Series Mania Forum, the program is now fully integrated into the institute’s initiatives. Its mission is to support creators, structure their professional paths, and foster meaningful connections within the industry.
