The Canadian psychological drama Empathy is successfully transitioning from a festival sensation to a global powerhouse with Crave and Canal+.
A joint production between Crave and Canal+, the Quebec-based series has rapidly expanded into European and Australian markets, establishing itself as one of the most prominent international titles of the year.
Following its acquisition by major platforms including SBS in Australia, Movistar Plus+ in Spain, TVCine Edition in Portugal, and Cinobo in Greece, negotiations are reportedly underway for distribution across Asia and Latin America.
This commercial momentum is backed by significant critical acclaim, including the Audience Award at Series Mania, where it received a historic 13-minute standing ovation, and a “Best Series” win at the Venice TV Awards. Currently, the show is a nominee for the 2026 BANFF Rockie Awards.
The series has already proven to be a viewership juggernaut, amassing 10 million views within its first two months on Canal+ in France and becoming one of Crave’s most-watched local originals. Capitalizing on this success, Crave and Canal+ have already moved forward with a joint greenlight for a second season.
Created by and starring Florence Longpré, the drama follows Suzanne, a criminal psychiatrist who utilizes unconventional methods to treat complex cases while simultaneously navigating her own psychological traumas. International distribution is being handled by Beta Film, the same firm behind the global success of Audrey’s Back.
