MIPCOM 2023 was an important event for Turkish companies operating in the TV series industry. Episode International asked the company officials who participated in MIPCOM about their experiences at the fair, the latest situation about the content they introduced at the fair, and the deals they made there that are significant for them. In this content, we share Kanal D International Sales Director Selim Türkmen’s answers to our questions.
How was Mipcom 2023 for you?
Mipcom was very successful for us as it has been every year. This year, as it was our 100th anniversary, we carried out intensive promotional work. We had the opportunity to introduce the Kanal D International brand and series to the whole world again with our sponsorships on many billboards, seminars, indoor and outdoor areas. We hosted many guests at our stand, and we will be receiving the feedback of these efforts before the end of the year.
Did you make sales/agreements with any countries or organizations for the first time this year?
As Kanal D International, we have a very extensive catalog. In addition to our new series A Father’s Promise – Dilektaşı, Daylight – Dönence, Farewell Letter – Veda Mektubu, That Girl – O Kız, Love and Hope – Aşk ve Umut, we are at the point of signing agreements in many new regions, especially in Europe, for our relatively older but still in demand series. We cannot announce it because it is not official yet, we will share it very soon.
Did you make any co-production or adaptation deals at Mipcom?
We have been in talks about co-production or adaptation agreements for a long time and we have been discussing this issue frequently on our agenda. Negotiations were also held at Mipcom, and we will inform you when they are finalized.
Which fairs are on your agenda for the coming months?
We are participating in DICM, Mipcancun in November and ATF in December. As you know, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia are very important regions for us. In the new period, we want to make our series broadcastable all over the world by participating in these fairs as in the past years.
What are your goals for ATF Singapore?
ATF is a very important fair for Asia. Asia is a growing region for us. In addition to selling our series, our goal is to develop linear and branded vod cooperations under our Kanal D Drama brand.
