Netflix has launched AI Discover, a new AI-powered discovery tab on its TV app that offers personalized recommendations based on users’ preferences and themes such as “Scare Me” and “Workplace Comedy Favorites.”
This is different from Netflix’s current recommendation system, which recommends content based on what people have previously watched. The new feature allows users to search for movies/shows based on how they currently feel or what they like. The aim is to help users find something to watch that matches their interests and current mood.
How Does Netflix’s AI Discover Feature Find Movies and TV Shows to Recommend Based on Your Mood?
Users can select themes like “Family Movie Night,” “Something Light,” and “Quick Watches” to get a list of recommendations that are appropriate for that theme. Viewers can filter the recommendations according to additional categories. Then they can filter out titles they do not wish to be included in their AI Discover recommendations while still having them included in their normal Netflix recommendations with the “Tune Your Recommendations” feature.
Who Can Use Netflix AI Discover and Which Devices Support It?
The feature is rolling out to a limited number of US users who watch Netflix in English on supported smart TVs and streaming devices. It is an optional feature and is not available on Kids profiles. Netflix plans to expand the rollout of this feature and build upon the AI-driven discovery experience going forward. The streaming platform will use user interactions and feedback to better understand what needs to be improved in order to create even more useful features. These experimental features may eventually find their way into the main interface of Netflix.
