Yasmina Reza’s globally acclaimed play Art is finally making its way to the big screen with a powerhouse cast that has become the talk of the Cannes Film Market. This English-language adaptation stars an extraordinary trio of Oscar nominees: Ralph Fiennes, Colin Farrell, and Wagner Moura.
Directed by Fernando Meirelles (City of God, The Two Popes) and written by Academy Award winner Christopher Hampton (The Father), the film explores the fragile nature of long-term friendship between the characters played by Ralph Fiennes, Colin Farrell, and Wagner Moura.
The plot centers on Serge, Marc, and Yvan, whose bond is pushed to the breaking point when one of them purchases an expensive, completely white painting. What begins as a debate over the definition of modern art quickly spirals into a raw confrontation, unearthing years of hidden resentments and unspoken grievances between the three men.
This project serves as a major reunion for the creative team, as Meirelles has previously collaborated with Ralph Fiennes on The Constant Gardener, with Colin Farrell on the series Sugar, and has produced multiple projects featuring Wagner Moura. Since its Paris debut in 1994, the play has seen massive success on Broadway and the West End, attracting high-caliber talent for decades.
Now, with sales officially launched at Cannes by Patrick Wachsberger’s new banner 193, the film is positioned as one of the most prestigious prestige-comedies in recent years, blending razor-sharp wit with a profound study of human ego.
