Netflix has officially announced its new film The Cackling of the Dodos, with acclaimed actor and director Jason Bateman (Black Rabbit, Ozark) set to helm the project, marking the latest addition to his successful string of collaborations with the streaming platform.
The dark comedy-drama features an all-star lead cast, starring the award-winning and widely popular cinema icons Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson.
Based on an original screenplay by novelist Rye Curtis (Kingdomtide), The Cackling of the Dodos is far from being a nature documentary about the extinct birds; instead, it centers on a small-town farmer named George who discovers a corpse in a grain bin and is thrust into a chaotic, messy murder cover-up engineered by his shady boss, Denny. Joining Rockwell and Harrelson in the expansive ensemble cast are Fred Hechinger, Michael McKean, Esther McGregor, Jenn Lyon, and Emy Coligado.
Bateman, who most recently earned a SAG/AFTRA Award nomination for his performance in Black Rabbit, is well-known for his standout acting and directing turns on Netflix, including his role as a villain in the hit thriller Carry-On and his work on the iconic, 45-time Emmy-nominated series Ozark.
