Canal+’s controlling shareholder, Bolloré Group, along with Mediawan and Banijay, are among the companies considering bids for Lionsgate Studios.
The studio became an independent company after separating from Starz in May 2025.
Lionsgate Studios’ portfolio includes major film franchises such as The Hunger Games, John Wick, and Twilight, as well as television series including The Rookie, Yellowjackets, Ghosts, The Studio, and the Power franchise.
According to Reuters, some potential buyers have withdrawn from discussions due to the company’s high valuation. Reports that Netflix was interested in acquiring Lionsgate Studios, which surfaced in June, were later denied by the streaming company.
Following the Reuters report, Studios’ shares rose by more than 8%, giving the company a market capitalization of approximately $3.86 billion.
Banijay recently completed its merger with All3Media, while Mediawan has expanded its presence in the U.S. market through a series of acquisitions in recent years.
Banijay and Lionsgate declined to comment on the report, while Bolloré Group and Mediawan had not responded to requests for comment at the time of publication.
