Burcu Kara: Seval is the Toughest Character I’ve Portrayed
Turkey’s hit series Back Streets (Arka Sokaklar) continues to expand its cast, Burcu Kara also joined the team.
Making intimate statements in an interview with Magazin D News Manager Asiye Acar, Kara shared her thoughts on many topics from the process of being involved in Back Street to motherhood; from her perspective on social media to her career.
‘SEVAL IS THE TOUGHEST CHARACTER I HAVE EVER PORTRAYED’
“Back Streets is a legendary work of Turkey… The producer is a very close friend of mine, the synergy and happiness of the set is very nice… At first I thought, ‘Is it possible? Will I be able to work peacefully? Will I be able to work in peace?’ My manager, my husband, and everyone was very supportive. I am glad I accepted. There are very valuable actors. Of course, they have been a family here for years. They speak a very different language. Our set is very peaceful, happy and very enjoyable… I have a lot of fun. I hope our viewers will like and appreciate us.
When it comes to Inspector Seval, she is a very different character. I’m emotional, calm, and I don’t want to hurt anyone. Seval, on the other hand, is a person who cannot tolerate injustice, who has no forgiveness… That’s why she is a very tough character and people are a bit afraid of her. I can say that Seval is the toughest character I have ever portrayed.”
ABOUT THE BACK STREET SERIES
“Back Street is very fast and very natural. I think that’s the biggest reason why it’s loved. It’s incredibly classic. They are very convincing, very lifelike, very real. That’s why they are so successful.”
HOW DID BEING A MUM AFFECT HER CAREER?
“After becoming a mother, you don’t make a decision to step back, but when you inevitably want to take care of your kid, of course you have to take a break. We have to accept that the mother needs to be happy too.
A happy mother means a happy child. If the feeling that I should always look after my kid and never work will make me unhappy, I should not do that. If working will make me happy, if I will be a happier, more energetic, healthier mother, I should work. That’s why I feel much more motivated now.”
‘SOCIAL MEDIA IS DANGEROUS’
“Social media is a dangerous place. There is a situation there that leads you to be perfect. Not everyone has to be the same. Not everyone has the same nose and lips. Then they will not be different from each other and what is not different will not be noticed. There is no such thing as Slimness = Beauty. As long as your soul is beautiful. The more you enrich your soul, the more confident you become and there is nothing as attractive as a confident person. I think if you are self-confident, you give that energy around you.”
‘THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF MOVIES I’D LIKE TO WATCH’
“You really need to feed yourself, fill yourself, observe many people, try to experience many things. If you know something, tell, teach, show… There is no end to reading and watching. If I had time, there are hundreds of movies would like to watch and hundreds of books I would like to read.”
Back Street airs on Friday nights on Kanal D.
