Blink Films has begun production on a feature-length documentary titled Göbekli Tepe: Mystery of the First Temple.
A co-production with PBS/NOVA, France Télévisions, and SBS Australia, the documentary examines new archaeological discoveries at Göbekli Tepe, the 12,000-year-old site in southeastern Türkiye.
Recent scientific findings suggest that Göbekli Tepe was not merely a ceremonial site, but may have been one of the world’s earliest permanent settlements. These discoveries are prompting scholars to reconsider humanity’s transition from nomadic hunter-gatherer societies to settled agricultural life.
The documentary also investigates why the site was suddenly abandoned around 8000 BCE, exploring possible causes such as environmental change, conflict, or natural disasters.
The film is directed by Simon Rawles and produced by Melisa Akdoğan and Andrew Richens, with international distribution handled by PBS Distribution.
