Netflix has unveiled the first official look at Scooby-Doo: Origins a new live-action series that delves into the formative years of the legendary Mystery Inc. gang.
Serving as a modern reimagining of the classic Scooby-Doo franchise, Scooby-Doo: Origins introduces a new generation of investigators, with Maxwell Jenkins starring as Fred, Mckenna Grace as Daphne, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, and Tanner Hagen as Shaggy.
While the titular Great Dane has yet to make his visual debut, the story kicks off during a summer camp where old friends Shaggy and Daphne stumble upon a haunting mystery involving a lost puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
The eight-episode first season is described as a “darkly comedic” thriller that blends live-action with animation, pulling the pragmatic Velma and the mysterious new kid Freddy into a nightmare that threatens to expose the group’s deepest secrets.
Behind the scenes, the project boasts a powerhouse production team, including executive producer Greg Berlanti, renowned for his work on Riverdale, alongside the Midnight Radio duo of Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg. The pilot is directed by Toby Haynes, whose previous credits include Black Mirror and Andor. Though production is currently underway and the first glimpses show the quartet peering cautiously around a door marked with a mysterious paw print, Netflix has yet to confirm an official release date for the series.
