SIC International Distribution had a busy MIPCOM 2026, meeting international buyers and showcasing a diverse catalog spanning drama, telenovelas, shorter-form series, entertainment formats and factual programming.
For Carlota Vieira, Content Sales Deputy Director at SIC International Distribution, the market also offered an opportunity to highlight the growing international visibility of Portuguese productions, including titles featured at MIPCOM’s Fresh TV Fiction showcase.
Vieira discussed the role of industry recognition in attracting buyers to Portuguese drama, SIC’s continued adaptation of Turkish intellectual property, and the sales potential of its established catalog.
How was MIPCOM 2026 for SIC International Distribution?
We can’t complain! We’ve been extremely busy with sales at MIPCOM, and our schedule has been full. We’ve met many people and friends from all over the world and had the opportunity to pitch our content.
Two of our productions were highlighted at conferences during the market. The first was featured at the opening session on Monday morning, while the second was presented at Fresh TV Fiction. We’re really proud that our productions have made it into these showcases.
The recognition our titles have received, including recent awards, also helps build credibility and encourages buyers to take a closer look at Portuguese drama. They may not be as familiar with it as they are with other established drama industries, but some are actively looking for alternatives.
Turkish drama has earned the trust of international buyers, and some of our productions are based on Turkish intellectual property. We are now working on our third drama adapted from a Turkish IP.
We began with Broken Promises, based on Kanal D’s Ruthless City. Then came our adaptation of Global Agency’s Gülperi, which recently won Drama of the Year at the Venice Festival. Our latest title, highlighted at Fresh TV Fiction, is The Greater Destiny, an adaptation of Inter Medya’s Hicran.
Our catalog includes plenty of love stories and telenovelas, but also shorter, edgier series, entertaining formats and factual programming. This diversity makes us happy and proud to be at MIPCOM.
We hope the market will pick up again, as we feel there are slightly fewer people attending this year, even though our own schedule has been full.
How is SIC International Distribution’s back catalog performing, and are buyers still interested in established titles?
Yes, we still have a substantial back catalog, particularly in drama, alongside lifestyle and factual content exploring different parts of the world.
These titles continue to sell and generate renewals. In some cases, buyers who have already acquired a title come back to request extensions of their rights.
Of course, there are limitations with one or two titles, but otherwise we are looking to extend the availability of our catalog and make more content accessible across different platforms and distribution opportunities.
