Russell Crowe and Ethan Hawke face off in the first trailer for The Weight, a tense period drama set during the Great Depression.
The Weight centers on Samuel Murphy, a war veteran played by Ethan Hawke, whose life spirals into desperation when he learns that his young daughter is at risk of becoming a ward of the state unless he can secure his release from a remote prison camp.

Inside the harsh environment of the camp, Murphy is approached by a warden, played by Russell Crowe, who offers him a deal: complete a dangerous assignment in exchange for his freedom. The task involves smuggling gold from a remote and treacherous mine, setting the stage for a physically grueling journey that quickly becomes psychologically unstable.
As the group of prisoners ventures deeper into the wilderness, tensions rise and trust begins to collapse. Themes of greed, survival, and betrayal steadily take over, turning the mission into something far more volatile than anyone anticipated. The film marks the directorial debut of Padraic McKinley and was previously shown at Sundance. It is currently set to be released in US theaters on September 18.
